Geeking out on...Product Development?

You may not know this, but Apple Inc. doesn't just make iPods, iPhones and iPads. In fact they make an entire computing system called 'Macintosh' ;). Okay, enough sarcasm. Folklore.org is a great website devoted to stories about the development of the original Macintosh. Above is a photograph of the design team taken by Rolling stone photographer Norman Seiff. They are Chris Espinosa, George Crow, Bill Atkinson and Burrell Smith.

If your an Apple zealot, it's a look at the roots of your fandom. If not, it's a rare opportunity to learn about the trials and tribulations of bringing a product to market. You may not want to know how sausages are made, but it's the only way to learn how to make great sausages.

Photoshop Painting

In preparation for my daughter's arrival, my wife and I have been working diligently to prepare her nursery for 18 years of occupancy. One of my personal projects is to create a work of art for her to enjoy until she decides that her parents are lame and wants to rebel. Using my medium-of-choice (Cintiq and Photoshop) I started sketching a fanciful scene of a rabbit in a pith helmet chasing a butterfly (you can see the initial sketch here). The butterfly morphed into a carrot with butterfly wings in order to pique the rabbit's interest. I then fleshed out the scene adding the background and coloring it to match the room (turquoise and yellow). This is full size, so now I just need to up-res...and up-res...and up-res...and giclée print.

If anyone needs a children's storybook illustrator, just let me know...

New Crisp Office - Phase 2

The Contemporary Log Cabin-feel is finally upon us. The wall slats are starting to go up and the cool grey background is being replaced with the warmth of ash. Also, the secret doors will finally be secret (except for the server room. Once the AC unit goes in then we can close the secret door). Next step will be the ladder to the super-fun-time loft and then on to the conference room.
